We’re currently looking for a Senior Turnaround Event Manager to join our team in Pernis.

This is a new role within the Turnaround team, reporting directly to the Manager of Projects and Turnarounds. This role will provide you with a wide range of professional, commercial and managerial challenges and opportunities, and the chance to gain exciting and valuable manufacturing experience in a world-class organisation.

Shell Netherlands Refinery (SNR) Pernis complex is a large and complex refinery with integrated chemicals facilities, processing about 20 million tonnes of crude oil per year. This is distilled, cracked and treated in more than 40 plants. The Pernis site is driving the ‘Flexible Flagship’ mission, aiming at top quartile performance and becoming the leading export refinery in Western Europe. To position Pernis for the future, a massive investment portfolio is being developed.

Shell Downstream encompasses all the activities necessary to transform crude oil into petroleum products and petrochemicals, and deliver them around the world. Which encompasses refining, supply, trade and ship crude oil worldwide, and manufacture, transport and market fuels, lubricants, bitumen, LPG and bulk petrochemicals for domestic, transportation and industrial uses. Altogether, the organisation employs some 65,000 people in around 100 counties.

Educated to BSc or MSc degree level in Mechanical Engineering. Fluency in English and Dutch is essential for this role. Willingness to learn Dutch within a short period of time will be considered. You’ll have extensive experience of working in a similar position within turnarounds and/or maintenance, preferably gained in manufacturing refining or petrochemical operating environment. With a proven success in leading and delivering complex turnarounds.

You’ll have extensive operations leadership and experience of turnaround planning, scheduling and execution. You’ll have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to manage and influence key stakeholders such as suppliers, internal customers and management. You’ll be highly skilled in handling and resolving complex situations with a proven track record of executing excellence and delivering results. You’ll have the commercial acumen to translate the business needs into delivering value solutions.

We will be seeking evidence on the following key competences.
· Your ability to motivate, coach and develop all members of your team to deliver superior performance; while appreciating the strength of diversity and strong team ethics
· You’ll always maximise business opportunities and be ready to build a shared vision and champion customer & stakeholder relationships to deliver results. While you’re analytical, decision-making and change management abilities will be first-class.

You must have a sound understanding of Safety and Quality Management systems and be able to adapt to changing workloads in order to maintain a first-rate turnaround capability.

You’ll be responsible for the successful definition, preparation and implementation of major turnaround events. Implementation scope concerns inspection, maintenance, plant changes and projects. The Turnaround Event Manager will form and lead a multi-disciplined task force team for the execution and implementation of an event according to agreed Quality, HSSE, schedule, cost and design targets. You’ll also ensure maximum operational availability during the post-turnaround production period.

This is a challenging role with specific focus:
· Performance improvement requirements for turnaround are huge; significant efficiency improvements are required
· Complexity of the turnarounds and events is large-scale, resulting in complex interface and logistics issues
· Stakeholder relationship management with a wide range of multi-tier customers in maintenance, inspection, projects, operations, procurement and external suppliers

Your accountabilities will include:
· Overall responsibility for HSSE performance during events
· Providing turnaround operational excellence and expertise towards integrated delivery
· Turnaround organisation design and resource planning for both Shell staff and contractors, including guaranteeing the availability of resources and ensuring an appropriate focus, especially pre-turnaround
· Scope definition, field execution, including planning and budget tracking
· Risk management, including contingency planning
· Effective management of capital projects and maintenance work-scope integration, including alignment of critical milestones
· Contracting partnering – managing 3rd party main and sub-contractors within turnarounds, in support of achieving world-class operational performance
· Capturing lessons learnt, including implementation of the new overall turnaround approach and supporting the development and continuity of turnaround operations knowledge and experience
· Initiating and implementing LEAN thinking for best in class efficiency within the turnaround activity
· Preparing and planning principles associated with shutdown, decontamination and start-up activities
· Acting as a reliable knowledge resource for turnaround readiness reviews, scope and schedule optimisation workshops and post-implementation reviews
