Shell companies have been finding and producing oil and gas around the world for over a century. Today, we have interests in exploration and production ventures in more than 39 countries and employ approximately 18,000 staff (not including contractors).

This is a technically challenging work environment characterised by a continuing need for research, the pursuit of new technology, and the adoption of new ways of working. It demands people who will thrive in a culture that encourages and rewards innovation, collaboration and the ability to learn from success as well as failure.

The Shell EP Projects team is one of the Global Technical Partners, with offices in Rijswijk, Houston, New Orleans and Aberdeen, and has the responsibility of managing a portfolio of existing and future major projects across the globe.

We’re currently looking to recruit a Metocean Engineer. The successful candidate will join the global metocean discipline skill group and be based in Rijswijk initially – transfer to one or more of our operating units is expected in due course.

Metocean Engineer

Requirements:
* With an MSc or PhD in Physics, Engineering, Oceanography or Meteorology and a demonstrable specialization in deriving metocean design and operating criteria for the oil industry, you will have proven experience in a range of international oceanographic and meteorological related activities including site surveys, remote sensing, database design and metocean instrumentation.
* You’ll be aware of state-of-the-art in metocean research, instrumentation and remote sensing.
* Previous experience in planning and conducting metocean field measurement programmes is essential.
* A good knowledge of metocean data quality control methods, database systems and one or more programming languages (preferably Matlab) is important.
* A high level of fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this position and ideally you’ll have had papers published in international journals or conferences.
* Team working skills and the ability to work with little technical supervision in a multidiscipline environment are also key attributes.

Responsibilities:

Metocean is one of Shell’s technical disciplines and the metocean team is responsible for the quality of the onshore and offshore meteorological and oceanographic advice provided within the group.

You’ll join a small team responsible for part of our international portfolio of metocean and ice advice services supporting our projects and operating units.

Your responsibilities will include:
* Supporting our technology development programme, which will involve both internal and external project participation or leadership.
* Managing the measurement, acquisition, analysis, storage and distribution of metocean and ice related field data.

A competitive remuneration package will be offered for this position based on the local prevailing conditions, policies and legislation in the country of employment.
