Requirements:
* The ideal candidate will have a diploma or degree in Science: Environmental, Chemicals with field experience vs working in an office environment
* 5 -10 years operations or maintenance experience in a major manufacturing facility or in major waste receiving facility.
* Waste Management, Upgrading/ Refinery or major waste receiving facility experience.
* Must have experience or willing to learn operating light equipment for handling waste (Forklit, Bob cat, Zoom boom, etc)
* Strong focus on safety, environment, TDGA (Transportation of Dangerous Goods), waste chemistry
* Individual must be comfortable working in a multitask environment
* Must be able to work well with operations and maintenance personnel in order to achieve objectives
* As part of the HSSE department, a strong commitment to, and leadership in safety is expected.
* Strong problem solving and decision making skills
* Knowledge of procedure writing, and procedure management systems
* Good computer skills (databases, spreadsheets)

Responsibilities:
Shell’s Oil Sands operations are based in Calgary, with mining operations located north of Fort McMurray and upgrading carried out at the Scotford facility northeast of Edmonton. Shell’s mining technical organization includes a full suite of geology, geotechnical, and mine and tailings engineering staff located at the mine sites responsible for supporting the day to day operation of the mines. Additional technical services and long range planning are also provided from a group located in Calgary.

Shell Canada is currently seeking a Waste Management Field Lead for our Fort Saskatchewan facility.

Reporting to the Waste Supervisor within the Scotford Upgrader HSSE department, this position is accountable for the management of waste and spent catalyst in the field in a safe, environmentally acceptable and economically efficient manner that meets all corporate and regulatory requirements.

* Coordination of waste movement on and off site, oversight of Waste Yards
* Day to day catalyst and waste handling/storage/treatment disposal activities.
* Carrying out planned and scheduled waste management activities with the movements of waste to offsite in coordination with other departments
* Ensure that produced waste/catalyst is properly identified and documented using inventory system.
* Maintain the waste inventory.
* Identify the need for material orders of to sustain waste management day-to-day activities.
* Compliance with regulatory requirements for provincial hazardous waste regulations Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (TDGA), as well as the Workplace Hazardous Material Information (WHMIS).
* Awareness of any Health, Hygiene, and Safety requirements prior to the handling/storage/treatment/disposal activities.
* Promoting a high level of safety awareness among operations personnel related to handling/storage
* As a back up to Waste Supervisor, ensuring that required documents/reports (i.e. waste manifest, bill of lading) are prepared and submitted per government legislation.
* Identifying opportunities for waste reduction
